Visit from Patrick

Today we had a visit from my cousin Patrick. We sure had a good time seeing him. He also brought along a fellow firefighter that Cullen really seemed to take a liking to. Here are some pictures of our time together. On our way to go out to eat we stopped by what I refer to as the world's largest tether ball.

This is just outside the place we ate at, it was a beautiful day!Cullen loves to race, he talked both Patrick and his friend into racing him around the house. This is Cullen's little jeep that doesn't run because we need a new battery, which is probably a good thing after seeing him try to steer his bike. Cullen still likes to take this for a ride daily and since it doesn't run I am usually the one that ends up pushing him around the yard. Fortunately, today I didn't have to push. Cullen found it pretty funny that he ran over Patrick's foot. After Patrick left he kept telling me, "I go bump and Patrick say ouch" then he would kill himself laughing.

Mother's Day

I had a GREAT Mother's Day today. Shortly after waking-up Nick made breakfast for Cullen and me- yummy. You might want to note from the picture that the Virgin Mary joined us for our meal. Nick told me for Mother's Day that the Jesus statue to match Mary is on mail order.

Besides breakfast I also got my car hosed down from Cullen and an oil change from Nick, some how they knew just what I wanted!

Between the Jesus statue and the oil change I'm sure you are all jealous. Nick was a surprised to learn that Geremu knew our credit card number and had gotten me a little something for Mother's Day. It really didn't surprise me one bit, my new shirt fits perfect!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's that read this blog!

Kisses in the Wind

I was really hoping for Mother's Day I would get a birth certificate, but at this point I know that is not possible. In fact, I received an e-mail from our specialist and it sounds like we might be in for a longer wait then they initially told us. With the drought in Ethiopia the capital city only has about an hour of power a day, making it extremely difficult to print birth certificates and passports. I'm still hoping for the best!

I don't know who wrote this poem but I love it! I also like the song, http://www.adecmusic.com/worship/kisses_in_the_wind.htm

Kisses in the Wind
I hold you in my heart and touch you in my dreams.
You are here each day with me, at least that's how it seems.
I know you wonder where I am... what's taking me so long.
But remember my child, I love you so and God will keep you strong.
May God hold you in His hand until I can be with you.
I promise you, my darling, I'm doing all that I can do.
Very soon, you'll have a family for real, not just pretend.
But for tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.
May God wrap you in His arms and hold you very tight.
And let the angels bring the kisses that I send to you each night.
Now go outside and feel the breeze and let it touch your skin...
Because tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.

A Big Boy Needs A Big Bed

When I started to re-do Cullen and Geremu's new bedroom we decided it would probably be a good time to move Cullen from his crib to a big boy bed. When we put Cullen's new bed in his room we also put a toddler bed in there for Geremu. Cullen never had a toddler bed but has sort of taken a liking to Geremu's. Once to twice a week he likes to plant his butt in Geremu's bed and sleep there. I have told him many times that it's Geremu's bed and he always responds with, "I just keepin' it warm". Last night he fell out of Geremu's bed and never even woke up. So I just went into his room and covered him up on the ground, I was afraid if I attempted to move him then he would wake up. Anyways, this morning when Nick went to shower he must have woken Cullen because when he got out of the bathroom Cullen had moved himself back into his bed and had fallen back asleep.

Credit Card

That's right folks, I am the proud owner of a credit card! I applied for my first credit card about a week ago and just received it in the mail today. Yeah Me! I'm so excited, what should I buy!!! I haven't activated it yet, I'm going to attempt that after Cullen goes to bed tonight. Hope it all works out!

Weeds

This was the view from my kitchen window today.

Although it may look like Cullen is getting pony rides around the yard from Nick what is actually happening is Nick is picking dandelions (and Cullen is riding along). This may be the craziest of my husbands traits- he doesn't like to use weed killer or anything to fertilize the lawn because it can pollute the earth but he is willing to spend minutes and sometimes hours picking weeds- I'm not kidding.

We live in a neighborhood where everyone has a beautiful lawns. Pretty much everyone uses a lawn service. We have had neighbors give us the number of their lawn service. I've actually called and had them come to our house but when Nick found out they wanted to "treat" the lawn with chemicals that was the end of considering a lawn care service. Apparently he was looking for someone that was willing to pick all the weeds and dandelions on their hands and knees for a small fee.

I'm sorry to admit I use to help him with his obsession before we had kids. I'm the one that initially purchased the "weed puller". But after pulling both of my hamstrings doing this I called it quits. Nick has improved his technique by crawling around the yard to prevent such injuries from happening to him. I don't think he liked the way I was pulling the weeds either because he would sometimes mention that I didn't get the root- again I'm not kidding.

On a completely different topic Nick and Cullen were outside washing out the fish bowl and Cullen dropped the bowl on the driveway. Thankfully Nemo wasn't in his bowl, Nemo now has a new home.

The Swing Set

Cullen got a new swing set this past weekend from my parents neighbors. This has offered plenty of entertainment this past week. Today Cullen had some of his friends over to share his swing set with (my friend Michelle's children). You can see just how much fun they had with us by their smiles!
I'm kidding, we did have a really good time and all the kids were tuckered out a little early then usual!
